Moreover, this study was the first observation to demonstrate that the novel lipid-soluble thiol-protectant, NBMI, was more effective as compared to the commonly used water-soluble thiol-protectant (antioxidant), NAC, in offering protection against the bleomycin-induced cytotoxicity, oxidative stress, thiol-redox dysregulation, and barrier dysfunction.
